If I did Phototoshop I'd take out the line accross the top.
You will have to imagine it improved.
Can you see the old soldier with his rifle walking along the hedgeline just right of centre?
I think he is a ghost.

Better than that Lilith !! I can hear his cry and despair and sufferance. It really well depicts desolation (in the landscape and in the heart). Well done.
Lilith: Thanks Florence, great comment and it really complements my photo. Its lovely to meet someone else with a big imagination.

Decidedly spooky!
This reminds me of Mathew Brady's American Civil War photography, which is no bad thing!
Lilith: Thanks Dave, thats a real compliment.

Yes, absolutely, and I can hear the noise of battle too.

Spookily clever picture of an old field
Lilith: Thanks Ellie. It was the mist on the field that drew my attention.
I didnt see the ghostly figure till I printed it. Obviously an optical illusion.

chris p from the swifts have arrived now too! 19 Apr 2007, 21:17
I'm on that battlefield, excellent shot Lilith smile
Lilith: Thanks Chris.

Brilliant shot, so evocative, my first reaction was of one of those WWll battlefield shots. Even more convincing when you see the soldier!

Photoshop is not the only photo editor around, in addition to Photoshop I use Google's free editor Picasa. You will find it if you follow the More link ine the Google page. I also found a brilliant online editor called Cellsea, of all things, you can Google the name or follow this link - http://www.cellsea.com/java-cellsea/media/index.htm
Lilith: Many thanks Alistair for the comment and the info. I will follow up your suggestions. I didnt know any of this.

Lilith, the detail of the soldier is impressive, to have warned thanks. The photography in itself has a epic spirit. smile
Lilith: Thanks Jose-Angel.

a truly atmospheric picture Lilith. Haunting
Lilith: Many thanks Paul

That is absolutely fantastic. That's not really a soldier is it :O.
I love the effect, didn't see the line at first until I read your comment. Where did you take this. I agree with Paul - haunting.
Lilith: Somewhere in rural England. It's the stubble from a field of Oilseed Rape.
The soldier is an optical illusion I spotted when I printed it out- that or I captured a ghost.

Ron Shavreen from 3 months west of retirement 6 May 2007, 14:34
I agree with Ivor - crop it below the line. What a great shot, moody, sombre, mysterious and evocative. To make all this out of a harvested field. Well seen!
Lilith: Hi Ron, sorry, I just noticed I hadnt replied to your kind comment, thanks.

The lonesome soldier and bruised landscape makes an evocative metaphor for the lives wasted in the trenches and futility of war.

I don't mind the line, it is a subconscious reminder of man's dominance over the land and of boundaries.

A thought provoking and admired discovery in your archive!
Lilith: Thanks for the comment, I love it when old postings are found. I have to re-appraise them. I was pleased with this one.
